Step 1: In lycopene, there should be fifteen bonding π molecular orbitals. This is ascertained as follows: 1. Occupied π MOs: These are the molecular orbitals in the conjugated system that are below the dashed line in the diagram. 2. Total Orbital Count: Below the dashed line in the diagram are 15 energy levels, each of which represents a single bonding π molecular orbital. 3. Validation: The conjugated system of lycopene has 15 bonding π molecular orbitals, which are confirmed by the appearance of 15 red and 15 blue lobes. Explanation: 15 bonding π molecular orbitals . { You type also complete text in this answer you have to but only 15 because we have to but only integer in this not alphabet. } The Correct answer is: 15 Step 2: Since each antibonding π molecular orbital is made up of a red lobe and a blue lobe, if the diagram shows 24 red lobes and 24 blue lobes above the dashed line, then there are 24 antibonding π molecular orbitals. Explanation: Molecular Orbitals Above the Dashed Line : Antibonding π molecular orbitals are represented by the molecular orbitals above the dotted line. There are two lobes on each antibonding orbital: one blue and one red. Total Antibonding Molecular Orbitals : The total number of antibonding molecular orbitals, with 24 red and 24 blue lobes, is: Number of antibonding π orbitals = 24 ext{Number of antibonding π orbitals} = 24 The quantity of π molecular orbitals that are antibonding is: 24 Step 3: 1. Total Number of Carbon Atoms in Lycopene: Lycopene is a conjugated molecule that has thirty carbon atoms. In the conjugated system, one p orbital is contributed by each carbon atom. 2. Total Number of π Molecular Orbitals: Together, these 30 p orbitals create a total of 30 π molecular orbitals: 15 chemical orbitals that form bonds (below the dashed line). 24 π molecular orbitals that are antibonding (above the dashed line). 3. Occupied Bonding π Molecular Orbitals: Eleven conjugated double bonds make up the structure of lycopene. The lowest-energy bonding π molecular orbitals are occupied by the two π electrons that each double bond donates. 4. Distribution of Electrons: The 22 π electrons provided by the 11 double bonds occupy the first 11 bonding π molecular orbitals below the dotted line. Below the dashed line, the final four bonding π molecular orbitals are vacant. In the ground state, all of the antibonding π molecular orbitals (above the dashed line) are vacant. Explanation: Total number of π electrons = 11 × 2 = 22. The Correct answer in an integer is 22 Step 4: We must adhere to the electron configuration principles in order to create the orbital diagram that depicts the electron configuration of carbon prior to sp hybridization. Carbon's Electron Configuration: Since carbon possesses six electrons, it has an atomic number of six. The electron configuration of carbon in its ground state is: 1 s 2 2 s 2 2 p 2 1s^2 \, 2s^2 \, 2p^2 Orbital Diagram: 1s Orbital : Filled with two electrons (not included in the figure since [He] stands for the core electrons). 2s Orbital : Containing two electrons. 2p Orbitals : Hund's rule states that each orbital receives one electron prior to pairing, hence the two electrons in the 2p subshell will occupy the orbitals. As a result, there is one electron in each of the two unpaired 2p orbitals. Explanation: Steps to Complete the Diagram: Place two electrons (↑↓) in the 2s orbital . Place one unpaired electron (↑) in the first 2p orbital. Place one unpaired electron (↑) in the second 2p orbital. Leave the third 2p orbital empty. Final Diagram: 2s: ↑↓ (filled) 2p: ↑ ↑ _ (2 electrons, each in separate orbitals). Step 5: Following sp hybridization, carbon's electron configuration changes in the manner described below: How to Show Carbon Following sp Hybridization: Hybridization : Two comparable sp hybrid orbitals are created by combining one 2p orbital with the 2s orbital. The two 2p orbitals that are left are not hybridized. Electron Placement : There are four valence electrons in carbon. The two sp hybrid orbitals are occupied by two electrons, one in each orbital. According to Hund's rule, the two unhybridized 2p orbitals are occupied by the final two electrons, one in each orbital. Explanation: Final Diagram: sp hybrid orbitals : ↑ ↑ (1 electron in each of the two sp orbitals). 2p orbitals : ↑ ↑ _ (1 electron in each of the first two 2p orbitals, the third 2p orbital is empty). Final Answer: Question 1: What is the number of bonding π molecular orbitals in lycopene? Answer: In the molecular orbital diagram, 15 bonding π molecular orbitals are located beneath the dashed line. Question 2: What is the number of antibonding π molecular orbitals in lycopene? Answer: 24 π molecular orbitals that are antibonding. The diagram displays 24 antibonding orbitals above the dashed line, each of which has one red and one blue lobe. Question 3: What is the number of π electrons in lycopene? Answer: 11 do
