Step 1:- Explanation:- The Fixed Overhead Spending Variance is $21,000, calculated by subtracting the budgeted fixed overhead from the actual fixed overhead. The Fixed Overhead Volume Variance is $11,000, found by multiplying the standard fixed overhead rate by the difference between actual and budgeted units. The Total Over- or Underapplied Fixed Manufacturing Overhead is $32,000, obtained by summing up the fixed overhead spending variance and the fixed overhead volume variance Step 2:- The fixed overhead spending variance and volume variance, as well as the total over- or under-applied fixed manufacturing overhead for Barley Hopp. 1. Fixed Overhead Spending Variance: Formula: Fixed Overhead Spending Variance = (Actual Fixed Overhead - Budgeted Fixed Overhead) Calculate Actual Fixed Overhead: Given: Actual Fixed Overhead = $285,000 Calculate Budgeted Fixed Overhead: Budgeted Fixed Overhead = (Standard Fixed Overhead Rate * Actual Number of Units Produced and Sold) Given: Standard Fixed Overhead Rate = $2.20 Given: Actual Number of Units Produced and Sold = 120,000 Budgeted Fixed Overhead = $2.20 * 120,000 = $264,000 Calculate Fixed Overhead Spending Variance: Fixed Overhead Spending Variance = (Actual Fixed Overhead - Budgeted Fixed Overhead) Fixed Overhead Spending Variance = ($285,000 - $264,000) Fixed Overhead Spending Variance = $21,000 (This is the variance.) 2. Fixed Overhead Volume Variance: Formula: Fixed Overhead Volume Variance = (Standard Fixed Overhead Rate * (Actual Number of Units Produced and Sold - Budgeted Number of Units)) Calculate Budgeted Number of Units: Given: Budgeted Number of Units = 115,000 Calculate Fixed Overhead Volume Variance: Fixed Overhead Volume Variance = (Standard Fixed Overhead Rate * (Actual Number of Units Produced and Sold - Budgeted Number of Units)) Fixed Overhead Volume Variance = ($2.20 * (120,000 - 115,000)) Fixed Overhead Volume Variance = ($2.20 * 5,000) Fixed Overhead Volume Variance = $11,000 (This is the variance.) 3. Total Over- or Underapplied Fixed Manufacturing Overhead: Formula: Total Over- or Underapplied Fixed Manufacturing Overhead = Fixed Overhead Spending Variance + Fixed Overhead Volume Variance Calculate Total Over- or Underapplied Fixed Manufacturing Overhead: Total Over- or Underapplied Fixed Manufacturing Overhead = Fixed Overhead Spending Variance + Fixed Overhead Volume Variance Total Over- or Underapplied Fixed Manufacturing Overhead = $21,000 + $11,000 Total Over- or Underapplied Fixed Manufacturing Overhead = $32,000 So, the total over- or underapplied fixed manufacturing overhead for Barley Hopp is $32,000. Explanation:- Fixed Overhead Spending Variance: $21,000. Fixed Overhead Volume Variance: $11,000. Total Over/Underapplied: $32,000. Final Answer:- Fixed Overhead Spending Variance: $21,000 Fixed Overhead Volume Variance: $11,000 Total Over- or Underapplied Fixed Manufacturing Overhead: $32,000
